Me gusta el cine sin distinción de género, nacionalidad, idioma o formato y NO creo en tautologías, ni verdades absolutas, que, lo único que hacen, es parcelar un arte en beneficio de unos pocos. El resto es cuestión de cada uno, cuando se apagan las luces.
As the saying goes two heads are better than one. Due to this reason I talked with a couple I have been watching films with and commenting our views for the last four years of the Night Visions Film Festival. Below is their vision of this film festival, which is organized twice a year in Helsinki, Finland. Thank you very much, Kati and Markku for answering my questions.
When was the first time you went to Night Visions Film festival?
I looked it up and it was Maximum Halloween 3008
The city of Helsinki hosts many other film festivals during the year. What was the reason which drew you to a Night Visions in particular?
Well I was interested in horror and Sci-Fi-movies, and I think I saw an article in a paper about the festival and I was instantly interested.
Are you regularly attending any other film festival?
Well we usually go with my wife to see some movies in Rakkautta ja Anarkiaa. We have not gone to other films festivals at least not at the moment.
What do you still remember from your first Night Visions Film Festival?
I was supposed to have a date there. The date never came to Night Visions, because she was so nervous that she got drunk in a bar and forgot to come to NV. I was of course nervous cause I could not contact her.
I think I went to see two movies. Crystal Lake and Tokyo Gore Police. I remember that the atmosphere in the theatre was different from other movie goings I was used to and I was hooked. So next year I went to see more movies.
And from your last-until now Night Visions?
Well the movies of course and the contest that involved throwing lots and lots of plastic spoons at a man posing as Captain America. I remember also the good atmosphere as usual.
How would you describe Night Visions Film Festival's evolution and development during the years?
More movies and more bigger movies to show, bigger venues to show stuff in. Also the festival has lengthened. I think it is all good as long the Night Visions maintains it’s own style, variety and form and those movies and venues support it.
How many films, an average estimate, do you see per festival?
Well I usually buy the serial ticket with my wife, so as many as possible. I think it was 20 movies last time.
Which do you prefer Back to Basic or Maximum Halloween editions?
I think the people and the choice of movies are more important than the venue. Though of course the place has some significance, really hard to say for me which one I like more. I just think the movies and the people are the most important aspect in making the best Night Visions experience.
What do you like most? What do you least like? What would you change if you had the power to do so?
I like the most the variety of different kinds of films shown there and the “Night Visions”- atmosphere, it is really quite special. The laid back -attitude of Night Visions film festival is great and it something I can appreciate.
Because I buy the serial ticket I don’t like when they have two or three interesting movies in the same slot without the possibility to see them all later in the festival. But I have been happy with the festival and it is quite hard for me to find any real negative thing about Night Visions. I am quite happy about how the Night Visions is going at the moment.
If you were going to recommend Night Visions Film Festival to someone who has just arrived to Helsinki, what would you tell this person?
If you like Sci-Fi or horror movies, you should definitely check out Night Visions. The variety of movies is good and the atmosphere especially during the night is great. It is good to see all kinds of different odd movies with people who can appreciate them.
